Dear Volunteer,
The Ohio General Assembly has passed legislation, AM. Sub SB 187, that requires organizations serving vulnerable individuals to inform any volunteer who may have unsupervised access to vulnerable individuals in programs that the volunteer may be subject to a criminal background check carried out by Colin’s Lodge. This check can be performed at any time and may include a request for volunteers to be fingerprinted and those prints run through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal identification.
Colin’s Lodge has zero tolerance when it comes to the abuse and mistreatment of its members. Colin’s Lodge is aware that there may be people who want to work or volunteer here for the wrong reasons. We structure our programs so that no staff member or volunteer is left alone with a member or other vulnerable individual. We try to prevent any opportunity for abuse and we periodically interview members and others about their experiences in the program. We take all allegations from member and their families very seriously. We refer all allegations for investigation, and we cooperate fully with any investigation. Wrong doers need to know that this is a very risky place to attempt to abuse members or the vulnerable. This thorough process not only protects the people in our program, but it also minimizes the potential for false abuse allegations against innocent staff members and volunteers.
Colin’s Lodge is required, under Section 2151.421 of the Ohio revised Code, to report their suspicions of or neglect to the local public adult services agency.
I understand that any violation of the Volunteer Code of Ethics and Policies may be grounds for removal as a volunteer. I have been informed of Colin’s Lodge position regarding criminal background checks and child abuse. Being fully award of the matters contained therein, I still desire consideration as a volunteer for Colin’s Lodge.Colin’s Lodge has zero tolerance when it comes to the abuse and mistreatment of its members.
